Fine Motor Snowflake Sensory Bin

Fall in love with some sensory water play! So fun! They are so easy to put together and also encourage lots of fine motor practice. This winter sensory bin is a perfect way to work on fine motor skills while providing tactile and olfactory sensory input too!

Simply dump all the materials into a large plastic container and then it’s ready for play time!

What you’ll need:

  • Water
  • Peppermint Extract (if you’d like a Winter scent. Also totally safe for small children. With other children, peppermint essential oil will work)
  • Metallic pearl white liquid water color (pick it up at Michaels!)
  • Foam Snowflakes
  • Silver snowflakes (cheap garland will do, as well)
  • Kitchen utensils – (whisk, a ladle, a large spoon, plastic bowl, anything to really scoop with)

Use a generous amount of the metallic pearl white liquid watercolor to achieve the shiny white water. It hides the silver snowflakes perfectly as these snowflakes don’t float. They just sit on the bottom of the sensory bin. The foam snowflakes, in blues and white, float perfectly on top of the water. Then, add the peppermint extract or essential oil if you’d like for a holiday smell!

Then, have fun scooping, pouring, and mixing the shiny-snow colored water with the different snowflakes!

We absolutely love this sensory bin idea. Perfect activity for a snowy day. If you tried this idea, let us know! We want to hear how you liked it!
